My Health Regime January 2021

January 2021  Largely as the result of yours/ Zoe’s/ Geneviève’s stuff and the series of Longevity videos I have just started doing some extra exercises with a Hungarian personal trainer.  Added to this I have started to take quite a few supplements including one called 8Greens and another called Bionor Immunity Boost alongside daily blueberries.  As you know I always cook everything from scratch and don’t buy ready made food (except for the occasional pizza and frozen chips!).  I don’t of course notice any difference in my polymyalgia and I might still need to use steroids to get rid of it, but I am trying to reduce inflammation as much as I can while doing more regular daily exercise. Consultation with Genevieve Riviere 9th Feb 2021 Foods to avoid: Dairy incl milk  Sugar (incl cordials) Flour / wheat / gluten Pasta ex buckwheat Potatoes Corn  Cake! Foods to prefer: Lemon / lime water Coconut/almond/oat milk (not soy) Green vegetables  Fruit esp berri...

Inflammation: what it is, why it’s bad and how to reduce it. PART 2 Hi, Herry, last week we looked at the cause of most pains and health problems: Inflammation. We covered signs of inflammation and how to test for it.  Let’s carry on and see how we can keep it under control. How to reduce inflammation in the body Dr Will Cole (a functional medicine practitioner) says, in his brilliant book  The Inflammation Spectrum , ‘Studies estimate that 77% of inflammation reactions are determined by factors over which we have at least some control - our diets, our stress levels, and our exposures to pollutants, with the remainder determined by genetics.’ This is BIG! It means that there is so much we can do ourselves that directly affects the way we look, feel and ultimately live the rest of lives.  Here are a few tips on how we can control the inflammation fire that can build up inside our bodies:  FOCUS ON Diet – ‘Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food’ - Hip...

My Health @ 2021

Herry running the senior steeplechase of 1959 I have been very fortunate in having enjoyed good health almost all my life, which I must owe to my parents. In particular I inherited plenty of stamina from both of them, and was  captain of running at school  as well as 'Best Recruit', in the  SAS Selection Course of 1970.  I played tennis regularly in my teens and 20's and in my 40s took up swimming, and carried on until I retired in 2006. I also used a gym until I moved to Stockbridge from London in 2011.  I very rarely had to take time off work as the result of colds or 'flu. so my immune system must have been strong.  I have also never suffered from any allergies or tummy upsets, which I put down to the sensible attitude to hygiene at home, particularly in the kitchen, and being brought up with dogs. My first health problem occurred in Japan in the 1980s when suf...

Nutrition and Health   Hi Genevieve,    It’s finally here! As soon as I turned 60, longevity and healthspan became a major focus in my life. I want to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible. I know many of you want the same. You want to keep up with your kids and grandkids. You want to be lifelong learners and go on adventures and climb mountains and swim in the oceans. I want that for myself, and I want that for you too.  The science of longevity has exploded in recen...
